Vice President, Business Operations
Overseeing the EMCOR Government Services' Business Operations, Compliance and Risk departments, Leara builds the operational and financial foundation required to establish an operations and compliance program and internal controls that will ensure detection of violations of laws and regulations. As the VP, Business Operations Leara works with the President and Executive team on strategies for the company’s organization by helping to a winning strategy for the company, oversees the directors and managers as they carry out the plan, measures the results of the strategy, and reports them to the company president. In addition, she helps to develop Compliance programs to ensure that all business units comply with the laws, rules, and guidelines that apply to the business. In addition to focusing on the division's corporate compliance, she also helps implement standardized operational and financial reporting procedures, ISO compliance, conducts internal audits, due diligence, assist with transitioning in new acquisitions and contracts and is responsible for the company’s operational and financial systems training.
Leara has over 33 years of operational, financial, and accounting experience. During that time, she developed expertise in such areas as treasury and cash management, shareholder relations, SEC and financial reporting for multiple subsidiaries, acquisition, due diligence, integration, systems implementations and training, and corporate and tax compliance.
In addition, she has developed and implemented operational and accounting policies and procedures, as well as the internal controls needed to support them.
Prior to taking her current position, she was vice president of EMCOR Government Services Compliance and Shared Services. Prior to joining EMCOR, Leara held positions with telecommunications companies, government contractors, and manufacturing firms. She was VP and director of finance at OneMain.com, an internet start-up that went public in 1999. In that post, she handled the acquisition of and financial reporting of nine subsidiary companies. She was also vice president of finance for Cuisine Solutions, an international manufacturer and retailer of food and catering services, and also served as VP and Controller for Thomas Enterprises, a government services contractor.
Leara holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Manchester University (IN). A certified public accountant (CPA), she is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), Maryland Society of CPAs (MACPA) and National Association of Professional Women’s (NAPW).
The Personal Side
Leara is married and has one son and two four-legged children. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoys writing, reading, boating, traveling, and listening to music.
